Purpose<\/h2>\n

I created Velabas\u00a0for the purpose of self-publishing travel stories<\/a> online. This website continues to exist principally to document that ongoing\u00a0journey in narrative prose.<\/p>\n

But I am above all a writer, and I want to continue to publish unrelated musings, blog posts, fiction stories and helpful advice somewhere on this website. That is why I created this blog. It is meant to be a quagmire of disjointed posts that have nothing in common besides the author. Some of the stuff on here will be interesting, and some of it will just be junk meant to experiment with search engine optimization. Whatever the case, as always, I urge you not to waste too much time here, but instead explore the world I’ve written about in the Travel Stories<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I like the idea of virtual networking. The future was always going to be in invisible networks, and here we are. However,\u00a0I’m no fan of hegemony, so I tend to limit my exposure to the big social networking sites. Don’t worry though, you can find Velabas on Facebook<\/a>, Twitter<\/a> and G+<\/a>. It’s important for me to have\u00a0my own space in the virtual world, apart from the powerful sites over which you have little control in what exactly is displayed on your “personal profile” page.<\/p>\n

Finally, velabas is about more than just networking and sharing drawings. I’m primarily a traveler. I want to take those who read my posts virtually with me. I want to offer new ideas that I only come across by traveling the way I do. Not everyone can do it, and not everyone would do it. So the things I learn are not meant to be hoarded selfishly. Through my writings, I hope to convey something different. Read more on this here<\/a>. If I can offer some kind of pleasure, or new piece of knowledge, or insight, into the world, then I am happy.<\/p>\n

Etymology of ‘Velabas’<\/h2>\n

We all strive to be original, and this was my best effort. I wanted to mesh French and Spanish. If I spoke any other languages, I would want to somehow get those in there as well. So, I imagine that the name of this site might change over time, because it is my intention to learn more languages.<\/p>\n

Velabas has several meanings. Spanish velar means ‘to be vigilant<\/strong>‘. Velabas might mean ‘you were being vigilant’. Or, a French speaker might see l\u00e0-bas, which means ‘over there’. Leaving l\u00e0-bas for the French translation, the remaining ‘ve’ is the Spanish ver, which means ‘to see<\/strong>‘. Ve L\u00e0-bas … ‘see over there’. See further.<\/p>\n

See further. Peer beyond normalcy; the plain, the mundane. It is a travesty to be matte, to not desire to behold grace, wherever it may be found.<\/p>\n
